JAMES PATERNITI, PhD 2025 Biography
Vice-President, Board Member
Jim has experienced a wide range of interests, ranging from architecture to medicine. With a love for “prowling” medical hall conferences, he could be found in ones on cardiovascular research, obesity, diabetes, metabolic diseases, Parkinson’s disease, as well as one on the discovery of molecules that changed the face of human disease. A Clinical Research Pharmacologist, Jim mentored many junior scientists to become directors and leaders in biotechnology. Along the way, he participated in the discovery and development of two new drugs for heart disease and diabetes, as well as numerous others at earlier stages of development. Diagnosed with idiopathic Parkinson’s disease in 2008, Jim used his wealth of knowledge and skill set to continue teaching, this time developing and facilitating a new San Diego Parkinson’s support group, Minds in Motion or “MIMO”. Started in 2009, the group ran through December, 2019, during which time Jim chose to join forces with the local non-profit, San Diego Central County Parkinson’s Support Groups, where he currently sits on the Board of Directors as Vice-President.
